Goals and Objectives

Our event has three main objectives: First and foremost, to recognize and honor outstanding architectural projects in the Borough of Queens that demonstrate creativity and innovation. Second, we aim to foster valuable industry connections by providing a platform for professionals to engage and collaborate. Finally, our event is dedicated to promoting design excellence, encourage high standards of sustainability and innovation in the field. Through these objectives, we hope to inspire, connect, and elevate the architectural community.

Award Categories

Single-family Residential: Recognizing excellence in residential design, this category honors architects who elevate living spaces to new heights. Includes new buildings, small projects, additions and renovations.

Multi-family Residential: Condominiums, Affordable Housing, Low-income housing, Market rate housing illustrating a response and concern for their urban surroundings.

Commercial Design: Highlighting outstanding design achievements in office complexes to retail environments. Office, retail, Industrial and Mixed-use.

Sustainable Design: Focusing on green building initiatives, energy-efficient designs, and the use of sustainable materials, this category is for projects that prioritize ecological responsibility.

Urban Design and Planning: This award acknowledges the impact architects have on not only the surrounding area, but for the public use and community needs.

Institutional, Cultural, Government: Educational, Health Care, Religious facilities.

Emerging Architect Award: Recognizing the achievements of young and emerging architects in the field of architecture, encouraging innovation and fresh perspectives.

Architectural Interiors: interior design (any category) achievement in outstanding interior architecture and design that encourages and uses innovative interior design ideas, techniques, and furnishings.

Unbuilt and Theoretical projects: All categories except (1), must be based in Queens, NY

Projects outside of Queens by Queens AIA members only (any category).

Submission Process

  1. Please reference the Design Submission forms in the section below.

  2. Participants must fill out their form with basic information, images, and floor plans of projects. Format and submission board are provided below for participants to fill in accordingly, in a simple, quick drag and drop format. Please do not include any logos or company information as the submission is to remain anonymous.

  3. Participants can submit a project in more than one category.

  4. To submit your project, email your PDF to QDA@aiaqueensny.org with the subject line below:

    [Insert Project Name] - 2024 Design Awards

  5. All submissions must be sent in by Wednesday, May 1st.

  6. Winners will be announced during the event ceremony on May 16th.

File Requirements

  1. Please save the file as a flat compressed PDF, with a file size around or under 5MB.

  2. Use your unique project name as the PDF file name when you submit your project, followed by the category that you are submitting for. Example: Austin House_Residential_Submission.PDF
